Cosmopolitan

Today we are doing something a little different here at Inspired Taste. Joanne wasn’t able to be the author of this post due to her busy culinary school day. My usual job description includes being the photographer/sous chef of the blog/household so writing for me is a lot like trailblazing into an uncharted jungle. Now fortunately I will be able to keep the writing to a minimum  today because we are sharing our favorite cocktail recipe. A huge bonus of doing cocktail recipes is that most people already relate to the enjoyment of alcoholic beverages :) , so a detailed explanation is definitely not necessary.  The recipe we are sharing today is one of our favorite cocktails the Cosmopolitan. In our opinion, the Cosmopolitan or “Cosmo” (the cute way of saying it) is the quintessential vodka cocktail that sometimes gets a bum wrap for being too girly,  overly sweet, or  boringly simple when in fact it has the potential for being the over achiever at any elegant soiree or personal happy hour. Now, if  you had asked for our opinion a while ago before we decided to make our own homemade version we would have agreed with the majority of  the cocktails bad reviews.  Most peoples experience with the drink entails going to a local bar, ordering the drink and 9 times out of 10  getting an extremely overpriced watered down vodka & cranberry.  Now due to this drinks constant mistreatment we exclusively mix it at home. We also decided it was time for us to share our recipe, which we feel is the perfect Cosmo. Also try our version of the perfect lemon drop martini.

Prep time: 5 mins
Total time: 5 mins
Serves: 1
Ingredients
  • 3 parts vodka (Pick your favorite quality vodka)
  • 1/2 part cranberry juice
  • 1/2 part triple sec
  • 1/2 part fresh lime juice
Method
  1. Start by chilling a classic martini style cocktail glass by filling it with ice or placing it in the freezer. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, mix in 3 ounces of a good quality vodka, 1/2 ounce cranberry juice (store bought is fine), 1/2 ounce triple sec, 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice. We don’t recommend using store bought lime juice for this recipe. Fresh lime is definitley worth the extra effort.
  2. Shake the cocktail mix for at least 10-15 seconds in shaker to ensure the mix is extra cold and well combined. Pour in chilled glass and garnish with a lime twist or slice. Enjoy!

Nothing wrong with that at all. I just can’t wait to get off of work and make another one :)

I know that is my plan right after I get out of work. There are ingredients left over that need to be polished off :)
