Our avocado pasta sauce is surprisingly simple to make. It’s super creamy, and you don’t use butter or cream to make it. This is one of my favorite avocado recipes.
We love this recipe so much! We’ve even tried it with sweet potato noodles.
Key Ingredients
- Pasta: I love spaghetti, but use your favorite pasta for this recipe. I’ve also made it using chickpea and lentil pasta, which added some extra protein.
- Avocado: You can make this easy avocado pasta sauce with 1 large avocado. Look for one that’s ripe and slightly gives when you press it.
- Tomato: You can see from my photos that I add a handful of chopped tomatoes to this pasta. They are pretty and add some extra texture.
- Green onion and garlic: I don’t go overboard with the onion and garlic. That’s why I stick with mild green onions and only a 1/4 teaspoon of grated garlic (any more, and it will be too strong).
- Lemon juice: Loosens our sauce and adds fresh flavor. Lime works nicely, too.
How to Make Avocado Pasta
This recipe is quick. Cook your pasta in salted water and follow the package directions. While it cooks, you’ll prep the sauce. Use a fork to mash avocado in a bowl until really creamy. If you still have a few larger pieces, it is okay. We are going to thin this out with pasta water in a minute.
Stir in grated garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Some of our readers were skeptical, calling this guacamole pasta, but everyone returned to tell us they LOVED it. Then, to turn this into a creamy sauce, add a splash of hot pasta water to thin it out. This starchy water thins our sauce nicely and helps it stick to the pasta.
Toss in your cooked pasta, green onion, and tomatoes. Give everything a really good toss in the avocado sauce, adding a little more pasta water if you think it needs it (it usually does). And that’s it! Your very own bowl of creamy avocado pasta.
What to Serve with Avocado Pasta
I love avocado pasta with some baked tofu or poached shrimp added to the top. You can also serve this easy pasta with salad on the side. Try this Greek salad, Caesar salad, or use one of our favorite homemade salad dressings. I especially love homemade ranch, honey mustard dressing, and this tahini dressing (dairy-free).

For the best texture, grate your garlic with a microplane. If you don’t have one, mince the garlic finely.

This was so easy and delicious!
Quick, easy and delicious. Used 1/2 of a lime and a ripe plum tomato. 5 stars.
This was great, and so quick and easy! I had cherry tomatoes on hand and used those, and it was yummy!
Hi Betsy, We are so happy that you tried it! Thanks for coming back and sharing.
Love simple, healthy recipes like this. We used chickpea pasta for protein and added green peas. Will definitely make this again!
This recipe is so quick and easy absolutely delicious.
So glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Very quick and easy which I love. I started eating the sauce with tortilla chips while I was waiting for the noodles to finish cooking, it’s basically a really creamy guacamole lol. Delicious nonetheless.
I made this tonight and added a can of diced tomatoes as I didn’t have fresh. I also cut up some turkey pepperoni for protein. It was so delicious. I’ll definitely make it again!
Great idea. Thanks for coming back to leave a kind review 🙂
Awesome, I am so excited about this recipe. I recently started eating avacoda and this recipe is by far one the best, simple, quick and tasty. My new go to meal. Thank you so much
This was fabulous! I folded in some torn up kale leaves, massaged with sea salt and lemon juice, and a handful of pistachios. Really delicious and a definite keeper.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this recipe. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT I made it for my little brother and I and he never eats veggies of any kind, but he likes this! It was so easy but I would recommend adding lots of lemon.
Thank you for sharing i can’t wait to try this looks so good
It was delicious!! I wasn’t sure if there would be enough texture in the dish, so I added a half pound of mushrooms, used 2 large tomatoes and sauteed it with some garlic and shallots. The dish came together quickly. Also used 2 avocadoes (we love them). What a hearty meal. Great idea using avocadoes as the sauce!
Just having your pasta w avocado sauce. For one. Yummy! Never heard of sweet potato pasta! Sounds good maybe with some bacon? Thanks!
sooo easy!! and tasty!! and healthy (especially with whole wheat past)
I looked at a few avocado pasta recipes and decided on this one. I used it as a base and added more stuff to our liking…the juice of 1/2 a lime, 4 avocados, peas, red pepper, and a can of Petit diced tomatoes. Big hit. It made enough for 5 adults. We all loved it! ♥️
