Shrimp Salad Sandwich + Giveaway

We had fun with this one. The other day, we were contacted about a new website to be launched in July by Kraft Foods. A part of this new website will be an interactive map of regionally-inspired sandwiches. Adam and I were asked to create a sandwich inspired by our hometown. We both grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and now live just a few minutes outside of Washington DC, so we decided to go for a seafood sandwich that took advantage of fresh ingredients, a light dressing and a favorite of ours, Old Bay Seasoning.

We are pretty picky when it comes to shrimp salad. To us, the dressing should be simple and light, never thick or heavy. The rolls should be soft and easily squeezed just before taking a bite and there should be some sort of crunch. For this recipe, the crunch comes from bright green Boston lettuce, celery stalk and radish. We also really wanted to keep things fresh with lime, basil and celery leaves (read: celery leaves are often overlooked and under-utilized).

The recipe is found below and this sandwich will eventually be added to the interactive map over at Kraft’s new website, Outsandwich.com. To celebrate, they are helping us out with a giveaway. This giveaway is now closed.
Disclosure: We did receive products to try out for ourselves, but all opinions in this post are our own. We did not receive compensation for this giveaway.

How about a sardine and rice sandwich for Jerseyyy!? (:
I come the land of “sarnies, baps and butties” all terms for the sandwich. But my favorite sandwich growing up would be your bacon bap! A soft floury round bread roll that was so tasty bought still warm from the oven. Then grilled English bacon (this is middle cut bacon with lots of lean meat) the topper would be a lightly fried egg. As you eat into it the egg runs down your face, but it is heaven!!! You haven’t tasted a bacon bap or buttie depending where in UK you come from until you have this experience.
we live in the south so it has to be a pulled pork sandwich on a bun w/ a little spicy coleslaw on top- yummy!
Originally being from Oregon, my hometown sandwich would probably be a dungeness crab cake sandwich with wasabi aioli… on a poppy seed roll.

A famous sandwich originating from Alpha Delta in New Haven, CT. On face value it’s a buffalo chicken sub with lettuce and tomato, melted cheese, mayonnaise, and doused with hot sauce, but it’s actually SO much more.!

I am from a small Spanish Mission town in California, so my hometown sandwich would be a mexicali torta sandwich with avocado and quesco fresco, pressed to melt the cheese. Yum!
Well I’m originally from GA and I grew up eating BLT’s they have the best homegrown tomatoes in GA.
Even though I’m from an old New England town near Boston, I would say that a hometown inspired sandwich would have to be something Irish inspired or something Italian inspired. Although less so now, my hometown has a large population of people who are either Irish descent or Italian descent. Maybe a sandwich with the same flavors as spaghetti alla puttanesca.
Bagel, cream cheese, tomatoes, and sweet onion.

Probably roast beef – although I think cheese and tomato is waaay better!
